X explores using stablecoins like USDC to pay content royalties
The discussions come as X phases out its Revenue Sharing program and introduces an Original Content Rewards Program for creators.
CoinDesk reports that X is in talks to use stablecoins, including Circle’s USDC, to pay royalties to influential users for their content, according to a person familiar with the plans.
The outlet says the proposal would build on Elon Musk’s broader stablecoin usage, noting that SpaceX’s Starlink already uses stablecoins for cross-border payments.
CoinDesk adds that the stablecoin discussions are unfolding as X phases out its Revenue Sharing program and rolls out an Original Content Rewards Program, aimed at compensating creators for original ideas, reporting, commentary, and related contributions.
The person cited by CoinDesk also said conversations with X are ongoing, and that they work with other social media platforms testing stablecoins as a way to pay commissions to influencers.
