COFCO sends first Brazilian sorghum shipment to China
The bulk carrier Guoyuan 26 departed Santos with about 69,000 tonnes, after Brazil issued final phytosanitary clearance and a Brazil China protocol took effect in November 2024.
COFCO International has shipped what it says is the first large scale cargo of Brazilian sorghum to China, after receiving final phytosanitary clearance from Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, according to World Grain.
The company loaded approximately 69,000 tonnes at its STS11 terminal in the Port of Santos, with the Guoyuan 26 bulk carrier departing for China.
World Grain reports the voyage is expected to take about 45 days, with arrival at Nansha Port in Guangzhou, where the shipment will be distributed by COFCO Trading.
The shipment follows the entry into force of the phytosanitary protocol for Brazilian sorghum exports signed by Brazil and China in November 2024, opening a new agricultural trade flow between the two countries.
