Genentech advances $2B Holly Springs plant with topping-out milestone

The 700,000-square-foot facility is expected to be completed in 2029 and support more than 2,000 jobs, including 500 high-wage manufacturing roles.

Genentech marked a construction milestone for its first East Coast manufacturing facility, raising the final beam during a topping-out ceremony in Holly Springs, North Carolina, according to ConnectCRE.

The project involves an approximately $2 billion investment and will eventually produce next-generation treatments for metabolic conditions, such as obesity, once the 700,000-square-foot facility becomes operational.

ConnectCRE reported the initiative was announced in May 2025 and broke ground in August 2025, with completion expected in 2029. The plant will incorporate biomanufacturing technologies along with automation, robotics, and digital manufacturing tools aimed at improving production efficiency, supporting sustainability, and strengthening the company’s U.S. supply chain.

The facility is expected to support more than 2,000 jobs, including more than 500 high-wage manufacturing roles and more than 1,500 construction jobs, and it is part of Roche and Genentech’s broader $50 billion commitment to R&D and U.S. manufacturing infrastructure.
