Japan’s yen intervention boosts prospects for carry trades

The yen support effort may have made it easier for investors to restart carry trades, per CNBC.

CNBC Markets reports that Japan’s historic intervention to support the yen may have had an unintended side effect, strengthening the case for investors to re-engage in carry trades.

The outlet says the actions have created improved conditions for borrowing in yen and investing elsewhere, effectively “turbo-charging” the strategy.

CNBC World reaches the same conclusion, framing Japan’s yen intervention as a catalyst that could help the carry trade return.
