OneDigital adds Midwest trucking-focused agency in Chicago suburbs

The acquisition brings a 20-person Elk Grove Village brokerage that serves more than 1,000 clients, with its book weighted toward commercial transportation and logistics coverage.

OneDigital, the Atlanta-based group benefits broker, has expanded its property and casualty footprint by bringing on a new agency in the Chicago suburbs with a focus on trucking. The firm announced August 18 that it added Midwest Insurance Agency, a 30-year-old commercial brokerage based in Elk Grove Village, Illinois.

Midwest Insurance Agency’s team of 20 supports more than 1,000 clients, with its book weighted toward commercial transportation, cargo and logistics coverage, owner-operator and independent contractor programs, and contractor’s insurance. The brokerage also includes a smaller niche in home health and medical professional liability.

OneDigital said transportation risk is among the most complex and specialized segments in the P&C market, and that agencies with long-standing carrier relationships in trucking do not often come up for sale. Founder and president Tom Hammond will stay on to run the agency, which keeps its Elk Grove Village office under the OneDigital name.

The deal follows OneDigital’s earlier acquisition of Watko Benefit Group in its Central region, and it is arriving as commercial auto remains one of the hardest lines to underwrite. Insurance Business highlighted that trucking firms face uncertainty heading into 2026, as tariff swings, soft freight rates, and rising repair and litigation costs are squeezing carriers’ margins, while brokers point to improvements in data, safety technology, and faster claims reporting.
