Coldcard adds seed randomness requirement after $130 million bitcoin exploit
The update is based on additional issues identified during a three-week review, and it changes how users generate wallet seeds by requiring added randomness.
Coldcard, via its maker Coinkite, rolled out new firmware security measures following a reported $130 million Bitcoin exploit, according to Decrypt.
The update requires users to add their own randomness when generating wallet seeds, a change aimed at hardening the seed generation process against the type of issue that can undermine wallet security.
Coinkite also described fixing additional security problems that were uncovered during a three-week review of the device and its related security matters.
The measures come as part of the firmware release, with Coinkite positioning the update as a response to vulnerabilities identified after the exploit.
