Hong Kong runs clearance and car access test at Huanggang Port

A next Saturday drill will stress-test all 90 clearance channels and assess how private vehicles use a new clearance machine.

Hong Kong has completed its first test with Shenzhen authorities at the revamped Huanggang border crossing, focusing on clearance procedures and private car access ahead of a larger exercise next week, according to SCMP Economy. The outlet reports that security officials said Saturday’s drill went smoothly, with orderly passenger flows and quick pickup by public transport. However, a motorist association flagged traffic jams along the San Tin Interchange roundabout leading to the crossing.

SCMP Economy adds that officials plan a further stress test next Saturday that will run continuous peak-level passenger and traffic flows. The drill is also described as a large scale cross border exercise, involving a full test of 90 clearance channels inside the building and an assessment of how private vehicles will use a new clearance machine.

Hong Kong authorities have conducted multiple drills at the Huanggang Port crossing this month as part of final preparations before the checkpoint opens, which sources have said could come as early as next month, SCMP Economy reported. Security Secretary Chris Tang Ping-keung said the exercises helped identify improvement measures, including how buses should line up and how different transport flows should be managed.
