Washington pushes for new crypto rules amid SEC and CFTC moves
The SEC advanced its first crypto fundraising framework while the CFTC signaled it could proceed with its own rulemaking if the Clarity Act stalls.
Washington is escalating efforts to shape the US crypto regulatory framework, with the SEC and CFTC taking distinct steps even as a major legislative push continues. Decrypt reports that President Donald Trump urged crypto executives to help pass what he called a fair version of the Clarity Act.
At the same time, the CFTC warned it would write its own rules if the bill does not move forward, signaling regulators may not wait for congressional action. Decrypt said the agency’s warning centers on preventing regulatory uncertainty from dragging on.
Separately, Decrypt reported that the SEC abruptly moved forward with its first crypto fundraising framework, adding momentum to regulatory clarity efforts from the agency side. The update suggests Washington is pursuing a parallel track of rulemaking alongside legislative negotiations.
