Clean energy investment set for record $180 billion in 2026

Clean energy capital expenditures reached $74 billion in the first half of 2026 and are projected to rise to $180 billion by year end, according to Crux data.

Clean energy investment is set to hit a record level in 2026 even as prior federal clean energy incentives are rolled back, OilPrice reports. According to fintech firm Crux’s State of Clean Energy Finance: 2026 Mid-Year Market Intelligence Report, clean energy capital expenditures reached $74 billion in the first half of 2026. Crux projects spending is on track to total $180 billion by the end of the year.

OilPrice points to ongoing grid upgrades to support a growing share of solar and wind power as part of the investment cycle. Crux CEO Alfred Johnson said the market has shown resilience, noting investment has continued after last year’s tax law changes, and OilPrice links additional demand to data center hyperscalers and the artificial intelligence boom.

The article also ties renewed interest in renewables to energy security and affordability benefits, amplified by recent volatility in fossil fuel markets amid the war in Iran and related supply chain vulnerabilities, OilPrice adds.
