Cotton futures rise slightly as managed money adds to longs
Export sales for the 2026/27 season totaled 4.235 million RB, 31% higher than last year, according to Export Sales data.
Cotton futures were slightly higher in the front months on Friday, with contracts up between 1 and 7 points, while trading remained mixed across the curve. December cotton rose 355 points on the week.
In positioning, Commitment of Traders data showed managed money added 5,798 contracts to its net long in cotton futures and options during the week ending August 18. That net long stood at 78,668 contracts on Tuesday.
Export Sales data from Thursday put 2026/27 cotton export commitments at 4.235 million RB, 31% above last year. The article notes this was 37% of the USDA export projection, behind the 43% pace of averages but ahead of the 29% pace from last year.
Other market markers were steady, including the Cotlook A Index at 98.90 cents on August 20 and ICE certified cotton stocks at 70,643 bales on Thursday. The Seam auction recorded 55 bales sold at 81.6 cents/lb, and the Adjusted World Price was raised by 143 points to 69.62 cents/lb, according to the report.
