Soybeans finish higher as meal gains and oil dips late Friday

September soybeans rose on the day, while soymeal futures jumped and soy oil fell, alongside updates on USDA yield and CFTC managed money positioning.

Soybeans ended higher late Friday, with contracts settling up 1 to 4 1/4 cents. September futures posted a 47 1/4 cent weekly gain, and November was up 47 cents on the week, while September options expired that day.

The cash market was also firm, with the cmdtyView national average cash bean price up 3 1/4 cents to $12.02. Soymeal futures gained $2 to $3.60 on the day, with September up $7.50 over the week.

Soy oil moved in the opposite direction, falling 56 to 184 points on the day, with September down 9 points since last Friday. In the background, Pro Farmer estimates after this week's Crop Tour pegged the US national yield at 53.3 bushels per acre, with production at 4.572 billion bushels, according to Yahoo Finance.

Positioning and export data also pointed to shifting demand expectations. Commitment of Traders data for the week ending August 18 showed managed money added back 50,300 contracts to take its net long to 151,662, while Export Sales on Thursday reported 2025/26 soybean sales at 39.992 MMT, down 18% year over year, with new crop commitments at 11.85 MMT, double the prior-year week and the largest in four years, per Yahoo Finance.
