Bitcoin surges more than 23% as US debt concerns drive crypto demand

Bitcoin briefly topped $79,000 and traded around $77,559, while Bitcoin and Ether ETFs pulled in more than $2.61 billion in inflows last week.

Bitcoin surged more than 23% this week amid renewed concerns over US debt, with the cryptocurrency trading around $77,559 at the time of writing and briefly topping $79,000 on Friday, according to Cointelegraph.

The outlet cited a view attributed to Ray Dalio that the US could face a debt crisis within three years, and it linked the move to debt-related uncertainty and broader US Treasury actions.

Cointelegraph said Bitcoin crossed above its 200-day moving average for the first time since November 2025, a level often used to gauge longer-term trend direction.

The rally also showed up in crypto investment products and related stocks, with Cointelegraph pointing to more than $2.61 billion in combined inflows into Bitcoin and Ether ETFs last week, alongside double-digit gains in shares of publicly listed crypto-related firms such as Canaan, Metaplanet, Coinbase, and Robinhood.
