Equinor and Aker BP report new North Sea gas and condensate find
The discovery sits 16 kilometers northwest of the Balder field, with preliminary recoverable oil equivalent estimated at 0.1 to 2.1 million Sm3.
Equinor and Aker BP have reported a new gas and condensate discovery in Norway’s North Sea, located near the operating Balder field, the Norwegian Offshore Directorate said Monday.
The exploration well was drilled in a production license 16 kilometers northwest of Balder, and about 205 kilometers west of Stavanger, a major oil services hub. The regulator said preliminary estimates place recoverable oil equivalent between 0.1 and 2.1 million standard cubic meters, or Sm3.
Equinor and Aker BP are reviewing the well results and other previously drilled wells in the license to assess further exploration potential. The companies are also looking to extend drilling and development in areas close to existing infrastructure, using tie backs to operational platforms.
Oil and gas producers on the Norwegian Continental Shelf are working to maintain production and exports for at least another decade, supporting Norway’s economy and supplying Europe as demand shifts away from Russian pipeline gas after the Ukraine invasion.
