Indian markets set for higher open as US stock futures slip
Sensex and Nifty ended Friday nearly flat, with US Treasury yields also weighing on global risk sentiment heading into Monday.
Indian equity benchmarks are expected to open higher on Monday, 24 August, after Friday’s close was largely steady, according to LiveMint Markets. Sensex finished marginally higher by 3 points at 77,540.83, while the Nifty 50 rose 20 points, or 0.1%, to settle at 24,252.
Asian markets were mostly lower on Monday as investors looked ahead to major event catalysts, including artificial intelligence-related stocks and the US Federal Reserve’s annual symposium. MSCI’s broad Asia-Pacific index slipped 0.1%, with South Korea’s Kospi down 1.66% and Japan’s Nikkei 225 down 0.49%, while Japan’s Topix edged up 0.16%.
In the US, futures pointed to a cautious start after a weak week, driven by a sharp rise in Treasury yields. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures slipped 44 points, or 0.1%, S&P 500 futures declined 0.1%, and Nasdaq-100 futures fell 0.2%.
LiveMint Markets also noted that Indian equities extended a losing streak into a second straight week, as investors weighed elevated crude oil prices, stalled US-Iran negotiations, and rising US bond yields. The Nifty 50 ended a seven-session losing run into Friday, dropping about 2.1% over the period.
