Japan day-ahead power prices jump to highest since January 2023
The nationwide day-ahead electricity price rose 20% in a week to about $0.16 per kWh, amid Middle East gas supply disruptions and an intense heatwave.
Japan’s nationwide day-ahead electricity price climbed 20% over the past week to the highest level since January 2023, according to OilPrice.
The price settled on Monday at about $0.16 per kilowatt-hour, or 25.18 Japanese yen, after disruptions to gas supplies from the Middle East and an intense heatwave pushed both prices and electricity consumption higher.
OilPrice cited data from the Japan Electric Power Exchange, noting the jump reflected both tighter fuel availability and elevated demand during the heatwave.
