Macron hosts Saudi crown prince in Paris ahead of bilateral talks
Agreements in health, transport and energy are expected to be signed Monday, with talks likely to center on Iran, alongside a second day of bilateral deal discussions.
French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed Saudi crown prince and de facto ruler Mohammed bin Salman in Paris for a two day visit that starts with the Esports World Cup and moves to deal talks and Middle East discussions on Monday, according to SCMP Economy citing reporting from Agence France Presse.
The trip opened Sunday evening as Macron hosted the crown prince at the Esports World Cup closing ceremony in Paris, where FIFA President Gianni Infantino was also present, and Macron spoke with leading gamers and handed out trophies.
A French presidential official said several agreements covering health, transport and energy are set to be signed Monday as part of the visit, with discussions likely to focus on Iran.
The Esports World Cup, backed by Riyadh and held outside Saudi Arabia for the first time, is also being used by Paris to underline that the crown prince rarely travels beyond major international summits, with the trip described as his first in almost a year.
