Streaming services hike prices in western Europe more than elsewhere
Ampere Analysis found the average monthly subscription cost in western Europe rose by $1.86 over the past three years, exceeding the $1.70 increase in the US.
Subscribers to Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video in western Europe have faced some of the highest subscription price increases in recent years, according to research by Ampere Analysis.
Over the past three years, the average monthly cost across the region rose by $1.86, after services used price changes alongside new business models that included lower priced, basic advertising tiers, plus increased monetization of premium users.
Ampere said pricing varies by market factors such as domestic competition and household income, with sub Saharan Africa seeing the smallest average increase of less than $1 over the period.
The report also noted Netflix raised US prices in March for a second time in a little over a year, and that Netflix’s UK financials showed annual revenues of 2.06 billion pounds in the latest year, up 11% from 1.85 billion pounds in 2024, alongside higher pre tax profits.
