China and Jordan urge reopening of the Strait of Hormuz for shipping
In a joint statement during King Abdullah’s visit to Beijing, the two countries called for normal transit through the strait to be restored and for the US-Iran ceasefire to be maintained.
China and Jordan have called for the Strait of Hormuz to reopen to shipping and for the ceasefire between the United States and Iran to be maintained, according to a joint statement issued during King Abdullah’s visit to Beijing.
The statement said the strait is a vital channel for international commerce and energy trade, noting that peace talks between the US and Iran have stalled and that the passage remains closed to most shipping.
It also urged a comprehensive solution to address tensions through dialogue and negotiation, with full respect for regional countries’ sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.
Separately, the statement criticized Israel’s actions in the West Bank and East Jerusalem and expressed deep concern about activities including land confiscation, settlement expansion, and efforts to change the historic and legal status quo of holy sites, according to China’s Xinhua.
