TAC halts EVM block production after alleged token supply exploit
TAC said the halt took effect within minutes, but it has not provided a restart timetable or detailed which token supply balances are affected.
TAC, an Ethereum Virtual Machine network connected to TON, halted validator block production after it said an exploited vulnerability affected the Cosmos-based EVM side of its network and, according to the project, only the TAC token supply.
In an Aug. 22 notice, TAC said it was working with validators on a temporary halt that would take effect within minutes. The project later said the halt was implemented and promised additional findings and steps toward resuming the chain.
On Aug. 23 at about 1:03 p.m. UTC, a check of the TAC explorer API showed block 24,671,475 as the latest block, with its timestamp at 11:58 p.m. UTC on Aug. 22. A new check on Aug. 24 at about 7:58 a.m. UTC still showed the same latest block.
TAC’s notices did not identify an unauthorized TAC amount, a dollar loss, the exploit transaction or block height, the vulnerable component, affected wallets, user losses, or a restart timetable, and it has not explained why the issue could not be isolated below the full-chain level. CryptoSlate reports that TAC has also not yet answered a state-reconciliation question around whether validators must check specific categories of TAC balances before agreeing on a canonical state.
