Uganda finalizes troop role for potential Gaza security force
Uganda’s parliament has already approved its troop contribution, while Burundi has not finalized its participation, according to officials.
Military officials from Uganda and Burundi visited Israel last week to discuss deploying troops to Gaza as part of an international security force tied to a ceasefire plan, according to officials cited by SCMP Economy.
The report says Uganda is finalizing details of its participation after its parliament approved the troop contribution this month, while no final arrangement is in place yet for Burundi.
SCMP Economy reports that an official linked to the proposal said Ugandan officials joined a Burundian delegation in Israel and that Burundi representatives expressed interest in the mission after sharing operational knowledge.
It was not clear what either country might offer or receive in return, and neither military responded to requests for comment, SCMP Economy added.
