UK graduate job vacancies hit lowest level in a decade
Adzuna said July graduate vacancies fell 45% year over year to 8,383, while the number of people starting university this September is at a record high.
UK graduate job vacancies in the United Kingdom fell to their lowest level since tracking began in 2016, with recruitment website Adzuna reporting that just 8,383 roles for people leaving university were advertised in July.
That figure marked a 45% decline compared with the same point last year, according to Adzuna, highlighting a worsening in hiring for entry-level candidates.
The report coincides with expectations that 262,820 people will start university in September, a record high, underscoring tougher conditions for graduates moving into the job market.
Adzuna attributed part of the pressure to employers reining in hiring amid higher labor costs from national insurance contributions and the minimum wage, and said some companies are prioritizing automation and artificial intelligence tools over new graduates.
