Judge postpones US trial in 1988 Pan Am Flight 103 bombing case
The judge scheduled a September 1 hearing in Washington to discuss the status of the case after jury selection had been set to begin Wednesday.
A federal judge postponed a US trial for a former Libyan intelligence official charged in the 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103, after defense lawyers said new evidence had been disclosed that they want to examine, according to SCMP Economy.
The decision delayed jury selection that had been set to begin Wednesday in Washington for Abu Agila Mohammad Masud Kheir al-Marimi, and the court scheduled a September 1 hearing to discuss the status of the case.
Prosecutors disclosed the new evidence to the defense on Saturday, the report said, and US District Judge Dabney Friedrich did not specify what the evidence is.
Al-Marimi is charged in the US with making the bomb that downed the plane, killing 270 people, most of them Americans, with Flight 103 flying at about 31,000 feet over Lockerbie, Scotland after takeoff from London Heathrow and bound for New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.
