Tokenized stock trading surges as equities move onto blockchains

Tokenized equities total about $2.2 billion versus a global stock market larger than $100 trillion, while RWA-linked perpetual futures gained to roughly one third of volume in three quarters.

Tokenized versions of stocks, including Nvidia Corp. shares, are expanding faster than other real-world asset categories migrating onto blockchains, according to a report from CoinShares and Token Terminal cited by ETF Trends.

The tokenized equities market remains small relative to traditional markets, with about $2.2 billion in tokenized equities against a global stock market worth more than $100 trillion.

Trading and derivatives activity tied to real-world assets kept rising even as broader crypto markets cooled, with on-chain perpetual futures linked to real-world assets moving from a negligible share of total trading volume a year ago to about a third in three quarters.

The report also highlights growing demand across asset types and venues, including oil, gold and silver contracts, and equity index products tracking the S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100, plus continuous trading outside traditional market hours.

On-chain data shows a retail versus institutional gap in wallet sizes, with holders of NVDAx averaging $519 in July 2026, compared with more than $25 million for BlackRock’s institutional BUIDL fund, and trading volumes on tradeXYZ rising roughly 20 times since launch. Semiconductor firm SK Hynix is cited as an example, with its tokenized shares becoming one of tradeXYZ’s largest markets after listing on the platform.
