Apple AirPods with built-in camera remain targeted for 2027
Bloomberg reports the camera AirPods, originally planned for 2026, are not arriving as soon as hoped due to supply chain and software issues.
A leaked video appeared to show Apple AirPods with a built-in camera that can capture what the earbuds see and send that information to Siri. In the clip, a person holds up a book to the earbuds, and Siri reads the cover to identify it, fueling renewed speculation that a launch was near.
However, Yahoo Finance reports Bloomberg said the product is not on track to arrive soon. Apple is still targeting 2027, with the delay tied to supply chain and software problems, and to difficulty building the visual AI models needed for the earbuds to recognize objects.
Yahoo Finance also notes the camera AirPods were initially intended to launch in 2026, but slipped mainly because Apple struggled to develop the AI capabilities required for the device. The report links the timeline risk to the same underlying problem that affected Apple’s Siri rollout, which was delayed by more than a year.
The outlook matters to investors, the report says, even as Apple’s business shows strength. Apple posted its strongest June quarter ever, with revenue up 16% to $109 billion, but delays connected to AI keep raising concerns about whether Apple is falling behind rivals.
