China warns of reprisals amid US “economic D-Day” Iran sanctions
China’s foreign ministry said the U.S. sanctions are an “economic warfare” step that could raise tensions, following six months of conflict involving Iran.
China warned it could retaliate if the United States expands sanctions tied to Iran, as the Trump administration described the move as an “economic D-Day” effort to isolate Iran.
According to SCMP Economy, China’s foreign ministry said it would “do everything necessary” to safeguard its rights and interests, with spokesman Lin Jian delivering the warning during a Tuesday briefing.
SCMP Economy also reported that China cautioned economic warfare would only fuel tensions and lead to further escalation, against the backdrop of six months of military conflict.
