Sun Communities hires Equity Residential veteran as CFO
The hire comes as Sun replaces CFO Fernando Castro-Caratini, who since May 2022, moves to an advisory role.
Sun Communities, a Michigan-based REIT, has named Robert Garechana as its chief financial officer, filling a role previously held by Fernando Castro-Caratini.
Garechana brings more than 20 years of experience at Equity Residential, where he served as CFO for seven years before taking on the chief investment officer position last August, according to Bisnow.
His arrival also follows leadership changes at Equity Residential, which is reshaping its executive ranks after the merger with AvalonBay Communities into Vivmark Residential. During the transition, Garechana was among executives not continuing in their roles at the combined company, Bisnow reported.
As of the end of June, Sun Communities owned, operated, or had an interest in 455 developed properties across the U.S. and Canada, and Castro-Caratini is set to transition to an advisory role within the company.
