US state banking groups form BankChain alliance for 2027 launch
BankChain says the network would be interoperable with other blockchains and target use cases including smart payments, tokenized deposits, stablecoins, and automated settlement.
Cointelegraph reports that 39 US state banking associations have formed the BankChain Alliance to build a nationwide, industry-owned blockchain network for banks, with a target launch in 2027.
The alliance said the planned network would support smart payment tools, tokenized deposits, stablecoins, and automated settlement, and it is designed to be interoperable with other blockchains.
BankChain said it is selecting a technology partner and would invite banks nationwide to take ownership of stakes, though the announcement did not name individual committed banks or detail governance or funding.
The report notes that BankChain is joining a broader wave of bank-led onchain efforts since late 2025, including initiatives mentioned by The Clearing House that involve clearing and settling tokenized deposits and connecting blockchain activity to existing payment systems.
