Bitcoin near $80,000 fails to revive corporate BTC treasury equity premiums

Three listed Bitcoin-treasury companies still trade below how much Bitcoin they report holding, leaving common-stock issuance as a potential dilution risk rather than a reliable funding flywheel.

Bitcoin was trading near $78,900, but the expected feedback loop for corporate Bitcoin treasuries did not return, according to CryptoSlate. The basic thesis was that a higher Bitcoin price would lift corporate share value above net asset value and restart common-stock issuance to raise new coins.

CryptoSlate highlights that Strategy, Twenty One Capital, and Metaplanet all showed common market capitalization well below the gross value of their reported Bitcoin holdings, even though the discount was not uniform. The outlet notes the comparison is complicated because debt, preferred stock, pledged coins, cash balances, warrants, and differing share-count conventions can change what is left for common shareholders.

The coverage frames the issue as a funding problem rather than just a valuation mismatch. If common stock no longer trades at a reliable premium, issuing shares can dilute Bitcoin per share, while using debt or preferred stock may avoid immediate common-share dilution but shifts value and risk toward senior claims.

CryptoSlate also cautions that simple “market cap below Bitcoin value” summaries can be incomplete because a company is not a withdrawal ticket for its coins. Common holders are residual claimants behind creditors and preferred investors and remain exposed to operating costs, taxes, governance decisions, and asset restrictions, with Metaplanet’s disclosed cash generation described as not matching the scale of its recent Bitcoin purchases.
