Silver edges lower on Tuesday but stays above $68 an ounce
September silver futures opened at $68.96 per ounce and were trading at $68.07 as investors look to the PCE inflation report and a Fed Chair speech at Jackson Hole.
Silver prices dipped slightly on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, while remaining above $68 per ounce, according to Yahoo Finance. September futures opened at $68.96 per ounce, up 0.5% from Monday’s close, but silver slid to $68.07 as of 8:08 a.m. ET.
Despite the morning pullback, silver was still holding onto weekly and monthly gains of 5.7% and 17.6%, respectively. The article highlighted that investors are focused on the next inflation data release, the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) Price Index, and on Fed Chair Kevin Warsh’s speech scheduled for Friday at Jackson Hole.
The report also linked the metal’s rate sensitivity to expectations around the Fed potentially raising rates after its September meeting. It noted that higher interest rates can be a headwind for silver because the metal does not pay interest.
Yahoo Finance further said market participants are watching how inflation expectations and broader concerns, including Middle East conflict-related worries about economic turmoil and manufacturing supply chain disruptions, could affect risk sentiment and precious metal demand.
