Tanker struck in Strait of Hormuz as shipping stays below average
Ship-tracking data showed only five commodity vessels moved in either direction on Tuesday, compared with a 10-day average of 15, as a temporary shipping corridor is discussed between Iran and Oman.
Another tanker was struck by a projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, UK Maritime Trade Operations said, as quoted by DPA, adding to a string of attacks in the key shipping chokepoint.
According to UKMTO, the latest attack occurred on Tuesday in the waterway between Iran and Oman, following an earlier incident on Monday off the coast of Oman. Windward reported the vessel was an Aframax sailing under a Liberian flag loaded with 704,000 barrels of jet fuel, and that it reached Fujairah.
Oil traders remain optimistic despite the ongoing disruption, even as efforts to bring Iran and the United States to the negotiating table have shown little evidence of results. Vessel traffic remained well below recent averages, with only five commodity vessels moving in either direction on Tuesday, roughly matching Monday.
The disruption is also far from pre-war levels. Kpler ship-tracking data as of early Wednesday showed traffic volumes remain muted as Iran and Oman discuss a temporary shipping corridor that could enable an interim reopening.
