Trump declares “Mission Accomplished” in Iran as war drags on

President Donald Trump on Wednesday declared “Mission Accomplished” in Iran, even as the conflict continues without a clear end in sight, according to reporting by the SCMP Economy.

Trump posted an image pairing him with Iran’s slain former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei against a stylised background that highlights US air and missile attacks.

The outlet said the slogan echoes former President George W. Bush’s 2003 “Mission Accomplished” remarks about the Iraq invasion, which were delivered aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln in front of a banner.

In the same image, Trump included a photo of Bush with the caption “Mission not accomplished 2001-21,” tying the new message to Bush-era framing of the earlier war.
