US seizes Chinese hacking platforms targeting US critical networks
The Justice Department and FBI said the QTFY group ran QScan and QTRouter and allegedly sold hacking services to clients including China’s Ministry of State Security and the People’s Liberation Army.
The US Justice Department and the FBI said they seized two Chinese state sponsored online platforms used to target US critical infrastructure and other sensitive networks, including NASA, the Federal Reserve and the US Senate, according to court documents cited by SCMP Economy.
The filings said the operations involved a group known as QTFY, run by China based Nanjing Xinjiuwei Network Technology Co, which created and operated the QScan and QTRouter sites.
SCMP Economy reports the DOJ and FBI said QTFY allegedly offered computer hacking services for a fee to clients including China’s Ministry of State Security and the People’s Liberation Army.
The Chinese embassy in Washington said the Chinese government opposes and combats cyberattacks and urged the US to stop using cybersecurity issues to discredit China, while the DOJ statement said state sponsored malicious hackers targeting critical infrastructure would be stopped and prosecuted.
