Hackers access data tied to car parking, lounges and Wi-Fi at UK airports
The attack did not involve bank or payment details, and the operator said airport operations and passenger safety were unaffected.
Manchester Airports Group, which runs Manchester, London Stansted and East Midlands airports, said the airports were hit by a cyber-attack in which hackers accessed data for about 8.7 million customers.
The accessed information related to bookings and services such as car park, lounge and fast-track reservations, as well as in-airport Wi-Fi sign-ups, and included email addresses, phone numbers, vehicle registration numbers and postcodes.
MAG said passenger safety and aviation security were not compromised, and it added that the hacked system did not hold customers' bank or payment details.
The operator said it immediately contained the risk, informed relevant authorities, and was working with specialist advisers, while advising customers to be cautious of unexpected emails, calls or texts claiming to be from the airport operator.
