Starknet Foundation demonstrates post-quantum resistant Bitcoin mainnet transaction
The first demonstration used a no-fork method that avoided soft forks, hard forks, and core protocol upgrades.
Bitcoin Magazine reports that the first post-quantum resistant transaction on the Bitcoin mainnet was broadcast this week, following a demonstration at Bitcoin Asia in Hong Kong by the Starknet Foundation.
According to the outlet, Damian Chen, the Starknet Foundation’s VP of growth, said the transaction required no soft forks, no hard forks, and no core protocol upgrades, describing it as a milestone for quantum-safe transfers.
The report says the approach is based on work by StarkWare researcher Avihu Levy, which targets the period when transactions sit in the public mempool, where vulnerable cryptographic material could be exposed to future quantum attacks.
Bitcoin Magazine adds that the method, described as “signature grinding,” intentionally becomes computationally expensive so a transaction does not rely on signatures that expose the vulnerable material while waiting for confirmation.
