Anfield Energy completes first underground blast at Velvet-Wood mine
The project received its ATF blast permit in June and Anfield says it is now focused on dewatering and testing its near-complete water treatment plant.
Anfield Energy has completed the first underground blast at its Velvet-Wood uranium and vanadium project in San Juan County, Utah, following receipt of an ATF blast permit in June, Mining.com reported.
The company said the blast marks the first underground activity at the project in nearly 40 years and supports its ongoing underground rehabilitation and development work, including rehabilitation of the first 700 feet of the decline.
Anfield said rehabilitation efforts completed so far include installing rock bolts and wire mesh for ground support, building roads and carrying out mucking and surveying, and putting in mine ventilation and utilities such as a primary surface ventilation fan and related ducting plus air, water, electrical power, and communications infrastructure.
Mining.com reported that construction of the water treatment plant and installation of the dewatering pump are nearly complete, and Anfield expects to begin testing and sampling in the coming weeks, with the closest-to-production asset in its uranium pipeline.
