China removes two generals from the Central Military Commission

The Central Military Commission removals followed investigations that began in January for alleged discipline violations.

Beijing has formally removed generals Zhang Youxia and Liu Zhenli from membership in China’s supreme military command, the Central Military Commission, according to SCMP Economy.

The outlet said the two officers had been under investigation since January over alleged violations of discipline, and were stripped of their positions at a meeting of the National People’s Congress Standing Committee on Friday.

SCMP Economy also cited commentary by PLA Daily from January that accused Zhang and Liu of betraying the Communist Party’s trust and undermining its absolute control of the military, as well as the armed forces’ reputation.

The generals are described as decorated veterans who participated in People’s Liberation Army campaigns against Vietnam in the late 1970s.
