MIAX resumes BlackRock Bitcoin ETF weekly options expiries under new rules

MIAX said IBIT will be listed under a new lower-threshold Tier 2 framework starting Aug. 18, 2026, bringing back specific Monday and Wednesday short-term expiries during Q3.

MIAX, the U.S. options exchange group, restored certain short-term options expiries for BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF after previously removing IBIT from its third-quarter roster. The exchange said IBIT will be listed under a new, lower-threshold Tier 2 framework beginning Aug. 18, 2026, and it published specific expiration dates including Aug. 19, Aug. 24, Aug. 26 and Aug. 31, confirming the fund returned during Q3 rather than waiting for the next quarterly eligibility review, according to CryptoSlate.

The change follows MIAX’s Pearl rule update, which splits eligible ETFs into two tiers. Tier 1 keeps the prior requirements of more than $50 billion in assets under management and more than 10 million monthly options sides, while adding Tuesday and Thursday short-term expiries, and Tier 2 lowers the gates to more than $25 billion in AUM and more than 5 million monthly options sides, but limits short-term expiries to Monday and Wednesday.

CryptoSlate also notes that MIAX’s listing notices do not specify which older test triggered IBIT’s Q3 removal, but the outlet points to historical data suggesting IBIT net assets of about $43.2 billion on June 30, which would be below the former $50 billion gate and above the new $25 billion threshold. Both tiers still require a position limit of at least 250,000 contracts and participation in MIAX’s Penny Interval Program, and the outlet adds that IBIT’s position and exercise limit was increased to 1 million contracts in May 2026.

MIAX’s Tier 2 framework does not create an expiry date on every business day, and it caps additional Monday and Wednesday short-term expiries at two beyond the current week at one time. The rule was filed Aug. 13, 2026, the SEC waived the usual 30-day delay to make it effective upon filing, and it set a Sept. 17, 2026 comment deadline, with the SEC retaining authority to temporarily suspend the change within 60 days.
