Ripple outlines four-stage quantum upgrade plan for XRP Ledger
Ripple says the effort is designed to evolve security well before quantum computing becomes an immediate threat, using parallel systems and an emergency response if timelines shift.
Ripple is preparing the XRP Ledger for quantum computing threats by laying out a four-stage roadmap aimed at protecting digital asset security as cryptography could become vulnerable over time, CoinDesk reports.
The plan includes assessing what parts of the network would be exposed, testing quantum-resistant cryptography against the ledger’s current workload, then running today’s security alongside new protections before moving the broader network over.
Ripple also says the transition would require coordination among independent validators and broader infrastructure upgrades, while factoring in AI-assisted attack capabilities.
Ripple frames the work as an infrastructure project rather than a last-minute patch, with its engineering leadership emphasizing the goal of upgrading critical financial systems before quantum computing reaches immediate risk.
