Trump administration weighs transfer of Yosemite strip to private developer
The proposal involves shifting about a 400-metre section, with the National Park Service slated to receive land of equal value elsewhere in California.
A report by NOTUS, via SCMP Economy, says the Trump administration is considering transferring a roughly 400-metre (0.25-mile) strip of Yosemite National Park to a private developer linked to Nevada-based Kingsbarn Realty Capital.
According to the investigation, the government spent more than a year working quietly on the transfer, and a Kingsbarn-controlled limited liability company bought a 33-hectare (83-acre) parcel just outside the park in 2024.
The report says Kingsbarn CEO Jeff Pori sought to build a road connecting that property to a Yosemite thoroughfare, citing what it described as exceptionally rare private access, while the National Park Service would receive land of equal value in another part of California.
The development is described as part of broader steps by the administration to roll back conservation protections for public lands, including cutting two Utah national monuments by more than 90 per cent in July and moving to end a rule that barred logging and road-building in national forests this month.
