Xi and Putin to discuss Power of Siberia 2 in Bishkek meeting
The Kremlin said the discussion will cover the long-stalled pipeline deal aimed at boosting Russian gas deliveries to China.
Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin are expected to discuss the Power of Siberia 2 project in a meeting in Bishkek on Monday, the Kremlin said, according to SCMP Economy.
The talks in Kyrgyzstan’s capital will be their second face-to-face meeting this year after Putin traveled to Beijing following a visit there by US President Donald Trump, SCMP Economy reported.
Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov was quoted as saying the issue would be handled bilaterally, as both sides are assessing whether they will finalize an agreement for the long-stalled pipeline.
The project is described as a flagship effort to boost Russian gas deliveries to China and further consolidate ties between the two neighbors, SCMP Economy added, noting Xi’s state visit to Kyrgyzstan ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit.
