Oracle gains ground in AI cloud race with expanding AI infrastructure

Oracle is scaling an AI infrastructure business, positioning it as an underdog challenger even as Microsoft accelerates Azure capacity and expands model access.

Yahoo Finance frames the race between Microsoft and Oracle for AI cloud services as a shift from Microsoft’s early advantages to Oracle’s faster expansion. The outlet says Oracle is rapidly expanding AI infrastructure by winning major contracts, emerging as an unexpected underdog in the battle for enterprise AI workloads.

The article contrasts Microsoft’s scale and execution in the AI boom with Oracle’s earlier catch-up posture. It notes that Microsoft had the strategic head start through Azure’s scale and its partnership with OpenAI, while Oracle appeared to be building toward comparable AI software and ecosystem capabilities.

Yahoo Finance also highlights Microsoft’s recent expansion efforts to support Azure demand. In fiscal 2026, the outlet says Microsoft Cloud revenue exceeded $214 billion and Azure revenue surpassed $100 billion, while the company added 31 new data centers during the quarter and expects its infrastructure footprint to nearly double within two years.

On capacity and flexibility, Yahoo Finance reports that Microsoft increased capacity by another gigawatt, reduced GPU deployment times in its largest regions by roughly half, and offers access to more than 11,000 AI models across multiple providers, pointing to continued demand absorption for new capacity.
