US strikes Iranian rocket launchers, raising Strait of Hormuz risks
The move followed weeks of relative calm and came as US pressure on Tehran to squeeze its economy continues.
US Central Command struck Iranian rocket launchers preparing to send mines into the Strait of Hormuz, ending a period of relative calm, according to Bloomberg as cited by FXStreet.
CENTCOM spokesperson Captain Tim Hawkins said US forces are monitoring the area closely and are prepared to protect the free flow of commerce through the essential waterway, while Iran vowed to retaliate quickly.
The attack was the first military action against Iran in more than a month, as President Donald Trump shifted toward a campaign aimed at squeezing Tehran’s economy, FXStreet said.
The episode also ties into financial-market “risk-on” versus “risk-off” dynamics, where increases in perceived risk typically strengthen safe havens like the US dollar, Japanese yen, and Swiss franc, while “risk-off” periods also tend to lift bonds and gold, FXStreet noted.
