Zelensky says Ukraine will prepare for more talks with Trump envoys
The remarks came as Ukraine also signaled it wants to accelerate parts of a planned 2027 EU 45.0 billion euro loan and seeks US investment for a defense technology fund.
Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine is preparing for additional talks with representatives of the US president, adding that he expects more details to be released the next day. Zelensky said Kyiv wants to ensure war does not remain the only path for how events unfold further, and he emphasized the importance of the United States sharing Ukraine’s views on the situation, according to SCMP Economy. In a separate development reported by SCMP Economy, Ukraine’s former defense minister Mykhailo Fedorov said he is seeking US investment for a defense technology fund. Fedorov also said, in an interview with the Financial Times published on Sunday, he is looking for Western capital to build and manage weapons development companies aimed at helping Kyiv resist Moscow, though he did not specify whether he would financially benefit or detail his role overseeing the fund, the outlet said. SCMP Economy also reported that Ukraine’s new defense minister, Yevhenii Khmara, said Kyiv will seek to bring forward part of an EU loan of 45.0 billion euros planned for next year. Khmara said Ukraine would also lobby allies for larger contributions and for new countries that have not yet provided support.
