Bessent tells Russia no economic relief until Ukraine war ends

The meeting highlighted Washington's willingness to reopen talks with Moscow, while Europe plans to keep isolating Russia at the G20 as the war continues.

CNBC Markets reports that the United States shared a message to Russia through Treasury nominee Scott Bessent, saying Moscow will not receive economic relief until the war in Ukraine ends.

The report says the engagement also underscored Washington's openness to reopening diplomatic talks with Russia, even as it continues to face pushback from Europe on how to handle Moscow.

According to CNBC World, Europe intends to isolate Russia while the conflict remains ongoing at the G20, framing the lack of relief as tied to the war's end rather than negotiations.
