Maruti Suzuki drops over 5% after August sales fall

The automaker reported August total sales of 219,220 units, down 9.2% month-on-month, with passenger car volumes also sliding.

Maruti Suzuki shares fell more than 5% intraday on the NSE on September 1 after the company reported weaker August sales, according to LiveMint Markets.

The stock opened at ₹13,540 versus the previous close of ₹13,547, and later traded around 1:15 PM down about 4.7% at ₹12,915. At its intraday low, the shares were down 5.1% to ₹12,851.

Maruti Suzuki said its total sales in August 2026 were 219,220 units versus 180,683 units in August 2025 and 241,421 units in July 2026, showing a 21.3% year-on-year gain but a 9.2% month-on-month decline.

The company also reported passenger car sales of 85,965 units in August 2026, compared with 66,450 units a year earlier and 103,456 units in July 2026. LiveMint Markets further noted the stock is down nearly 23% year-to-date on the NSE, compared with about an 8% decline in the Nifty benchmark.
