Neigbuy says suspected cyberattack exposed data of 33,054 customers
Hong Kong police received six reports of scammers posing as Neigbuy staff, after the privacy watchdog began a formal investigation.
Hong Kong’s Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data confirmed it received a data breach notification from Neigbuy on Sunday, after signs of an alleged cyberattack were first detected on August 24. The incident involves suspected unauthorized data access at the TVB-owned group-buying platform, which offers limited-time deals on groceries, fresh produce, household goods and other products.
The watchdog said the security incident affected 33,054 customers, with potentially compromised information including names, addresses, emails, phone numbers and online shopping order histories. The office also said it initiated a formal investigation into the breach.
Police said they have received six reports of scams in which fraudsters posed as staff connected to Neigbuy. The privacy office advised customers to change account passwords, enable multi-factor authentication, and stay alert to suspicious contacts.
