Ontology suspends mainnet block production to investigate security concern

Ontology paused at 09:09 UTC on Aug. 31 and said no restart timetable was provided while validators reviewed the issue.

Ontology suspended mainnet block production while its technical team and validators investigated a potential security concern, halting the network and pausing on-chain transactions, according to CryptoSlate.

In a notice posted at 09:09 UTC on Aug. 31, Ontology said the halt was a preventive measure. The project said it had not confirmed any security incident and found no indication that user assets were lost or compromised, adding that ONT and ONG and other on-chain assets were unaffected based on its preliminary assessment.

A public-node snapshot showed a gap of about five hours and six minutes since the chain's last recorded block, with the documented node reporting block 20,770,893 at 13:30:49 UTC and a block timestamp of 08:24:26 UTC on Aug. 31.

Ontology did not specify the technical condition under review, which systems might be involved, or what findings would allow production to resume, and it said the suspension's duration was undetermined while it would issue a separate announcement before or when the network resumed.
