Bermuda reinsurance market hits record $197.5bn in 2025 gross premiums
Bermuda’s participating reinsurers reported 4.6% year-on-year premium growth to $197.5 billion and a 16.6% increase in total equity, with investment income rising 34.8% to $23.4 billion.
Bermuda’s global reinsurance market reached a record level in 2025, with participating members generating $197.5 billion in gross premiums and revenues, according to new figures from the Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers (ABIR). That total rose from $188.8 billion in the previous year.
ABIR said gross premiums written increased by $8.6 billion, a 4.6% year-on-year gain. The association attributed part of the increase to two additional participants contributing around $850 million, and it noted that five of its larger members saw individual premium growth of at least $1 billion.
The report also showed improvements in participating companies’ financial results, including a $5.9 billion increase in investment income, up 34.8% to $23.4 billion. Net income climbed by $5.9 billion, or 22.4%, to $32.8 billion, while total equity increased by 16.6%.
ABIR described the premium rise as concentrated among certain companies rather than broadly distributed across the market. It linked the growth to market discipline, with firms taking a measured approach to expansion rather than seeking additional share as rates were falling.
