G20 finance officials outline clearer pathways for digital asset innovation

The G20 Chair’s statement also points to upcoming Financial Stability Board work on stablecoin cross-border issues and asks countries to expand large-value payment system operating hours.

The Block reports that G20 finance ministers and central bank governors agreed to develop clearer regulatory and supervisory frameworks for digital assets to support financial innovation while preserving stability.

In a Chair’s statement issued after a two-day meeting in Asheville, North Carolina, the officials said digital financial innovation, including digital assets, can support broad-based economic growth and help drive private sector innovation.

The group said it looks forward to forthcoming Financial Stability Board findings on the cross-border implications of global stablecoin arrangements, along with stablecoin data sources, availability, and potential challenges.

Officials also reaffirmed their commitment to the G20 Roadmap for Enhancing Cross-border Payments and requested member countries to expand large-value payment system operating hours.
