Hong Kong arrests clinic operator over unapproved cancer vaccine claims

Authorities seized more than 50 unregistered injections, classifying the products as Part I poisons under local law.

Hong Kong authorities have arrested a 28-year-old man overseeing a clinic accused of selling an unapproved cancer vaccine, with the case tied to alleged injections targeting more than 20 types of cancer, according to SCMP Economy.

The arrest followed a joint operation by the Department of Health and police that included raids on 13 premises linked to the clinic. Health officials said there have been no reports of illness among people who received the so-called WT1 cancer vaccine.

While WT1 is a legitimate protein target studied in cancer research, authorities said the clinic allegedly used a German laboratory chemical that contains the protein, but is intended only for research use. Officials added that they seized more than 50 unregistered injections, most of them vitamin-type health products.

Authorities said the injections were classified as Part I poisons under Hong Kong law. The clinic had previously faced official scrutiny after media reports exposed alleged illegal practices, SCMP Economy reported.
